Jalena + Regan = Wedding

I swear I am going to move to Montana just to shoot the awesome weddings there!  Every single wedding I’ve ever shot in MT has been one of the best weddings I’ve ever witnessed.  Jalena and Regan wed at Snowbowl, Missoula’s local ski resort.  It’s beautiful there year round, and June 20th was no different.  Jalena is from Spokane, Regan is from Helena and to make it fair for their guests they picked Missoula for the wedding.  I have to say, I have never seen a better reaction from a guest upon seeing the bride for the first time.  Jalena’s former boss in Spokane made the trip to Snowbowl and she literally ran to Jalena to hug and congratulate her.  Scroll through the images to see this memorable reaction.  Another moment that will always stand out in my mind is Jalena’s grandparents at the anniversary dance.  Both Jalena and Regan are very close with their families, and it was apparent by the toasts, the tears and the hugs how much love everyone has for each other.  It was a day full of emotion, and I want to thank Jalena and Regan for letting me be a part of it!  Congratulations you two!  Jalena, you give me hope that my guy is still out there some where (winky smiley face)  I couldn’t be happier for you guys!  xoxo, Emma

Anna + CJ = Wedding

What more can I say about this wonderful couple and gorgeous wedding that isn’t already conveyed through their stunning images!  Anna, CJ, their wedding party and families are radiant inside and out!  I had so much fun at this wedding, from meeting the girls at Flawless  http://www.flawlessfullservicesalon.com/ to meeting the guys on the dock for photos, to watching everyone tear it up on the dance floor!  The day was wildly successful, full of everything a good wedding has- cute flower girls and ring bearers, tearful moms and dads, and lots of libations!  (Well that’s what I think constitutes a good wedding!)  I couldn’t be happier for Anna and CJ and their families, they’re a close knit group with lots of couples to turn to for marital advise if they need it.  Congratulations Anna and CJ!!!!!  I wish you all the best in your new life as husband and wife!!! xoxo, Emma

Kesli’s 9 Month Session

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I met Kesli in her hospital room when she was 14 hours old!  It’s been a joy watching her grow.  Kesli’s parents always bring the cutest out fits for her photo sessions!  I absolutely LOVE when it’s time to take Kesli’s photos.  I’m especially pleased with the beautiful images in this blog.  Summer time in the Northwest has some really lovely lighting and it’s so great when you can use that lighting to your advantage.  Recently I’ve heard the comment, “Emma’s photos look so much better than other photos I see posted online.”  And to that I say it’s a combination of my camera, knowing lighting and a little bit of editing.  Kesli’s photos didn’t need any color saturation or editing, but I did it to a few to make them POP!  When it comes to edits, I offer lots of options to my clients and let them decide what they like best!  I know that the two images that look almost neon would look AMAZING on a metal print!  Any way, I love that photography is always changing, I try to stick with what I think is timeless, but some times the scene before me lends itself to artistic interpretation.  I love that about photography!  xoxo, Emma

Amy Senior Photo Session

Amy was so sweet to work with.  We laughed and chatted about plans after high school.  I teased her about her older brother’s alma mater (University of Montana) and she joked that she threatened him with going to his rival collage, Montana State.  All joking aside Amy is set on UW where she wants to study business.  I have no doubt this little smarty pants will do amazing in college!  Congrats on making it to your Senior year!  I wish you all the best!  Cheers, Emma

Archie New Born Session

What a beautiful baby!  Archie was all smiles and over all a pretty easy subject!  I love when a new born sleeps through half the session and is awake for part of it.  It’s always nice to get photos of a sleeping baby and if they have really gorgeous eyes like Archie, it’s nice to get images of him when he’s awake.  I appreciate Archie’s parents being such wonderful clients.  They came out to the studio in Feb for their daughter’s one year old session, and were so happy with those images they contacted me for their new born session.  It’s great to earn a clients loyalty.  Thanks a million for letting me capture your beautiful family!  xoxo, Emma

Emily Gonzaga Graduate

It was a pleasure to meet Emily and her parents Kathy and Gary.  I met them near the statue of St. Ignatius a.k.a. “Darth Vader” and we mapped out our photo session.  You’ll see in the images that we hit all the iconic spots (skipping the Bulldog statue because like most GU students Emily already has plenty of photos next to it!).  As we meandered from St. Al’s to the Bing Crosby house Emily said hello to classmates and we chatted about future plans.  I am interested in everyone I photograph, that’s what helps me to capture my subjects.  The ability to portray a person as their friends and family know them is very important to me.  I try not to stylize my sessions, or put too much of my own likes and interests into some ones photos.  We may have started the day as strangers, but after an hour of walking, talking and stopping for photographs, I felt like I knew Emily and her parents and I felt like I had captured her.  I hope that when they see these images they say “Ah, that’s the fun loving, hard working, caring Gonzaga graduate we know!”  Thank you so very much for spending time with me and allowing me to capture your family photos during this milestone in Emily, and your, lives.  Congratulations Emily!  Best wishes in your future endeavors!  Cheers!

Olivia + Tyler = Wedding

When I met with Olivia and her mom on Easter to chat about Olivia’s wedding, I knew nothing about Olivia, her family or her fiance′.  That’s why we have wedding consultations, to learn about the bride, groom, their wedding party and family.  We planned as much as we could in 30 minutes, then parted ways never to meet up again until the wedding day.  May 3rd came in the blink of an eye and I arrive at Olivia’s home to do a few shots of the dress and details, and to finally meet her hubby-to-be.  I was surprised when I saw Tyler, well it wasn’t Tyler that surprised me, it was his beard!  I’m a fan of beards, don’t get me wrong, but most of my grooms are trimmed up or clean shaven for their wedding.  I LOVE that Tyler was 100% himself on his wedding day.  Obviously Olivia loves him for exactly who he is, ZZ Top beard and all!  I always have a blast when shooting a wedding, but more than anything I hope that my brides and grooms have fun!  I strive to make picture time enjoyable, since that’s what couples are supposed to be doing on their wedding day- enjoying the experience, the memories and the gathering of loved ones.  It was apparent to me that Olivia and Tyler truly enjoyed their big day.  From the moment I photographed Olivia at Gloss Make Up Artistry to the last images I shot of them under the wisteria tree, the day was perfect!  Congratulations to Olivia and Tyler!  Cheers to a happy life together! xoxo, Emma

Miss Makenna Class of 2016

I was in for a treat when I met Makenna, her mom, her sister and her friend last weekend for Makenna’s Senior photos.   We met at Half Moon Ranch in Colbert, WA to photograph Makenna with the horses she works with.  Half Moon Ranch is a special place for Makenna and she wanted to start her Senior photo session there.  With it’s picturesque setting, Half Moon was the perfect location for Senior photos.  After shooting at Half Moon Ranch we made a quick stop for Makenna’s wardrobe change and to grab a special prop.  When we got to our second location, Makenna unfurled the Texas state flag and that’s when I learned that this little horse trainer was also a Texan!  I love that Makenna had the Texas flag, it ties in with the images of the horse and I couldn’t be happier with this session!  Thank you Makenna and family for a memorable morning!  Congrats on graduating from Mt. Spokane! xoxo, Emma

Seth’s Senior Model Session

I met Seth years ago when he was about 12, and as most of you know kids grow up FAST!  It was fun to see Seth and his twin Sidney again after so many years.  I am so grateful to these two for hanging out with me for a few hours.  I asked Seth and Sidney’s mom if she thought they would want to model for me, and I had a feeling Sidney would be in.  It had been so long since I’d seen Seth and I wasn’t too sure how he felt about having his photo taken.  I was pleasantly surprised when Seth said he’d do it too!  As I posted in Sidney’s blog, I’m fascinated by twins, and I really wanted the opportunity to photograph both Sidney and Seth.  So, thank you Sidney, Seth and Jeanne for your time and participation.  I think Seth had fun, I mean just look at these images! xoxo, Emma

Sidney’s Senior Model Session

I’m fascinated by twins.  I grew up with 2 sets of twins at my tiny Catholic school.  One set was a boy and a girl and the other was 2 girls.  The girls looked exactly alike, it took me forever to tell them apart!  The other set of twins looked nothing like each other, and so much so that they would win “least identical” contests at the fair!  My brother married a girl with a twin, and they have twin sisters!  That’s right, my sister-in-law’s mother gave birth to 2 sets of twin girls!  I’m intrigued by twins and what they decide to do as a team, and what they decide to do as individuals.  I’ve known twins to go to the same college, get married around the same time and start families at the same time.  Then there’s Sidney and Seth.  From what I gathered, they enjoy different activities, different groups of friends and some of their classmates don’t even realize they’re twins.  As you’ll see in the following images, both are very photogenic and both are very sweet and polite.  Since Sidney is the older of the two and ladies go first, I’ll begin with Sidney’s session.  Seth will have his own blog post, because, well, these twins like keeping their own separate identities.  xoxo, Emma
